“In my work with people who are dealing with the challenges of cancer, I am always looking for partners in the community who can be part of a support network. Many times people who are diagnosed with cancer face tremendous financial challenges. I have worked with some who have lost their jobs, used up their retirement savings and have fallen behind on their fixed living expenses. The added stress of financial hardship on top of having a life threatening illness can be devastating. Over 10 years ago I was thrilled to learn about Raise the Bar and the financial resources they are able to provide to people in crisis. The volunteer board is compassionate and professional, and they have assisted several of our clients. They are a wonderful organization to work with and their assistance is invaluable”.

“Our recipient was elated and the news of a grant came at a perfect time as her grandmother had just died. This money will allow her to keep her health insurance until the policy from her new job kicks in. We were told ‘This means my kids will have a Christmas’. Thanks again to everyone at Raise the Bar, we are so grateful”.

“How many of us, on hearing of financial hardship brought about by illness, have wished we could do something to help? One of the great privileges of working with Raise the Bar is having the opportunity to do just that, to offer assistance with rent, mortgages or utilities when a family's income has been drastically reduced. For one woman with stage 4 cancer, her overwhelming desire was to attend her daughter's graduation. By covering one month of her mortgage, RTB could give her this one last gift. For another couple who had struggled for years to stay in their home despite the husband's debilitating illness, RTB was able to cover their large back oil bill and insure a continued supply of heat. Sometimes there is good news, like the high school teacher whose rent RTB had covered, who wrote months later to thank again and announce that he'd been declared cancer free.
These are only three examples out of the hundreds of people RTB has touched through the years. The need will not go away. Neither will the help as long as those, in gratitude for their own blessings (good fortune), reach out to aid others”.
